Post-summer
jelk kruk . com

The days are getting shorter and the sun isn't that warm anymore. It feels like a year has passed. Summer must be my favourite part of the year. Autumn somehow has something very autumnish this year. And to underline this feeling, the summer slowness is swiftly changed into post-summer rush, strong like the autumn winds...

Yes, we are very busy at SuperNova at the moment. I am working on the transformation of the Emmaus church in Vlaardingen. The client is in a rush, and we want it to be build as soon as possible too, but Job is in France enjoying his holiday, so I am left alone on the project. The publication I have been working on for quite some while now for Concept House has been ripening long enough, and it is ready to be finished. It is time to pick the fruit. Autumn... I told you so. At the same time we are asked to do an extension in a Den Haag shop, plus some more logo and poster design. These are busy days.

Yes, this busy era hardly leaves any time for attending the presentation of the publication on young architects in the The Hague Architecture Center (Stroom) Wednesday the 17th or the prize giving ceremony of the design competition Good Red Super Green Thursday the 18th. I am curious what the jury decided, but we received no news yet, so we might not win. Strange...
   | update sept 22nd: Actually we did win! Check here for our submission 'Welkom in Wisp' (in Dutch)...

Nevertheless our fame is growing. Except for the publication of Stroom, we recently have been interviewed by the BNSP, the Dutch Professional Organization of Urban Designers and Planners on our vision on urban planning. Plus we have Gerald Russelman as our first man in the SuperNova Studios Division in Shanghai, China. We expect the first towers to be erected soon.

So altogether, everything is developing quite well. I even managed to get my driver’s license and have been driving since. At least till the transmission died on our weekend trip to my grandmother in Friesland, who I didn’t see for quite some time. Ingrid and I had a great time, but now the question is if we should buy a new old car or repair the old old car. But I started to like our ’88 Peugeot 205. Doubts...

Further news is that a little written monument was published on our good old faculty of architecture. The english version "Bouwkunde, portrait of the  Faculty of Architecture 1970-2008". It is a nice collection of memories from several generations of users of the building. Among those Frits van Dongen, Francien Houben, Herman Hertzberger, Liesbeth van der Pol, Jelk Kruk and a few tens more are looking back in time. An accompanying DVD with the interviews will appear later. Try to lay your hands on one, or download the english version in pdf here, if you want to go melancholic...

It is autumn, I told you...

PS: Summer was nice and warm in the Croatian coast, except for Ingrid’s ‘potres mozga’ experience. Like always I am slow with pictures and stories from summer holidays. They might appear in a non chronological way some day somewhere.
